Our Story
The El Cajon Collaborative (ECC) is one of the oldest and most well-established community collaboratives in San Diego County. Formed in 1992, it is an unincorporated coalition of organizations and individuals committed to improving conditions for families in the community of El Cajon. Partnership is held by public and private service providers, educational institutions (K-14), community members, business and faith organizations, and city and county government agencies. With its diverse and broad base of support, ECC has been successful in implementing it mission to work together to strengthen relationships and expand services, resources, and opportunities that enhance the quality of
life and well-being in our community by leading initiatives and programs. Our efforts are prevention focused, innovative, and encourage institutional flexibility.
In 1995 ECC opened "Little House," a family resource center named by an initial group of involved parents to emphasize the welcoming, non-institutional atmosphere of the facility. Little House is home base for the ECC, and serves as a satellite office for multiple ECC partner agencies that provide a variety of family support services.
Over the years, outside, independent evaluators have documented our success at improved accessibility, efficiency and quality of services to families. Families are able to access valuable services at one location in their neighborhood that is culturally sensitive to their needs. The ECC has received recognition for its collaborative work throughout the years.
In addition to ECC's program experience, established relationships with partner agencies, and success with community outreach and engagement, ECC has the trust of the residents of our diverse community. The El Cajon Collaborative, a network of nearly eighty non-profits and government agencies, has the collective ability to reach every corner of the community. ECC is currently working on addressing homelessness within our local school district, reducing barriers and education of our newcomer population, creating opportunities for community engagement on regional efforts for transportation and climate change, and focusing on mental health service gaps within our community.
As a convener and facilitator, the ECC is a catalyst for collaborative efforts. Without ECC, it is unlikely that opportunities to partner would be identified and valuable networking would not happen. By working together we reduce fragmentation, minimize gaps in services and hold each other accountable to a higher level of quality services. As a referral source, we consider accessibility and are sensitive to language and cultural requirements. In the thirty plus years of our operation, the demographics and challenges of our families have changed. We continue to thrive because of our ability to modify and adapt our work to meet the needs of those we serve.
