a work group of el cajon collaborative
East County, particularly El Cajon, has seen a large growth of refugees. Recent statistics have shown that El Cajon is now home to the largest population of Middle Eastern refugees, mainly from Iraq. The El Cajon Collaborative formed a working group focused on the unique needs of our newcomers. It was important to the group to identify those needs and to help our newcomers access the services and programs that were available to them. The group also looks at gaps in services, or barriers to accessing services, and collaborates together on filling those gaps with new programs and services. The stakeholders are agencies that work directly with our newcomers, but the meetings are open to all interested agencies as well as to the public. We encourage community engagement to help our families navigate a system that is sometimes difficult with language and cultural differences. For more information please contact Estela de los Rios, Chair at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Meetings are held each month on the second Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. We meet at HHSA-East Region, 367 N. Magnolia in the large conference room.
